January 20, 2024 - Sabine National Forest

A 5K, 10K, 25K, and 50K trail race located in the piney woods on the border of Texas & Louisiana. 

WHEN/WHERE

The Start and Finish are located at the Lakeview Recreation Area. We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your race starting.

Pre Race - Friday (optional)

Early Packet Pickup - 2-4PM at Lakeview Recreation Area.
Race Brief 
- 4PM at Lakeview Recreation Area.

Race Day - Saturday
Packet Pickup 
- 6-8 AM at Lakeview Recreation Area.
50K & 25K Runners - Start time 7:00 AM at Lakeview Recreation Area.
10K Runners - Start time 7:30 AM at Lakeview Recreation Area.
5K Runners
- Start time 8:00 AM at Lakeview Recreation Area.
Race Cutoff - 7:00 PM (12 hours total to complete race)

On Saturday, we will need volunteers to man aid stations to help runners get through this race,

WELCOME

This is the first year of Sabine Trail Runs! This race takes place on a very unique trail known as "Trail Between The Lakes." This trail is 27 miles long. With this being the first year of the race, we plan to only use 15 miles of the trail. 

Course Overview
- Surface: Single-track dirt trails with roots and creek crossings.
- Course: Trail Between The Lakes.
- Elevation: 2400ft of climbing and descending for the 50K distance.
- Location: Lakeview Recreation Area
- Weather: Historically 40-60 degree weather. 

RACE

50K - One Out'n Back
50K runners will run a total of 31 miles running 15.5 miles out and 15.5 miles back. The elevation gain is 2400ft of climbing and descending. Aid stations will be available every 2-6 miles along the course.

25K - One Out'n Back
25K runners will run a total of 15.5 miles running 7.3 miles out and 7.3 miles back
. The elevation gain is 1400ft of climbing and descending. An aid station will be available at miles 5 & 10 along the course.

10K - One Out'n Back
10K runners will run a total of 6.24 miles running 3.1 miles out and 3.1 miles back. The elevation gain is 600ft of climbing and descending. Our hot coco/aid station will be waiting for you at the finish.

5K - One Out'n Back
5K runners will run a total of 3.12 miles running 1.5 miles out and 1.5 miles back. The elevation gain is 600ft of climbing and descending. Our hot coco/aid station will be waiting for you at the finish.

Trail Markers
The trail is permanently marked with yellow blazes. In areas that lack, we will use bright orange ties and signs to mark the course. Signs with arrows will be used to show which direction to run on and ties will be used to let you know you're on the right path.

Aid Stations

Antlers Aid Station (MILE 5.2 & 26):  

The aid station will be manned by a few volunteers and will have water, naked-flavored Tailwind (electrolytes), sodas, bananas, oranges, pickles, chips, pretzels, nuts, animal crackers, Oreos & PB&Js. This aid station does road access but limited parking for crews.

Yellowpine Aid Station (MILE 11.7 & 19.4):  

The aid station will be manned by a few volunteers and will have water, naked-flavored Tailwind (electrolytes), sodas, bananas, oranges, pickles, chips, Oreos, pretzels, nuts, animal crackers, bacon & grilled cheeses. This aid station also has road access but limited parking for crews.

Jones Water Station (MILE 14.1):  

The aid station will not be manned and will have water.

Hot Coco Station (FINISH LINE):  

The aid station will be manned by a few volunteers and will have hot cocoa, water, naked-flavored Tailwind (electrolytes), coke & ginger ale, & bananas.

Camping:

There are camping spots available at the Lakeview Recreation Area. Only a 1-minute walk to the start/finish area. It's first come first serve and a self-service pay station of $3 per site.
